ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION
Mission Statement
Bnei Akiva of Los Angeles is a West Coast Orthodox Zionist movement that engages youth, family, and community in year-round programs to develop a strong relationship to Am Yisrael, Eretz Yisrael, and the values of Torah V'Avoda.
Our Name
We started out in 2013 through a partnership with the Shalom Institute, a non-denominational campsite in the heart of Malibu, and thus our nascent Modern Orthodox/Zionist camp was launched as Moshava Malibu. After our 2014 season, we acquired our own site in the San Bernardino Mountains and moved to Running Springs CA, changing our name to Moshava California. On April 9th, 2018, in gratitude to the generosity of Mr. Allen and Mrs. Deanna Alevy, we officially changed our name to Moshava Alevy in memory of their parents Norton and Sylvia Alevy z"l. Assistant Director
Daniel Tamir
Daniel was born and raised in Jerusalem, spent 3 years in the Israeli army and earned Exceptional Athlete Status, which enabled him to pursue his dreams as a professional ball player. He started his professional career at the age of 18, playing for Hapoel Men’s Basketball Team in the 2009-10 and 2012-13 seasons. In his youth, he represented Israel in the U16 and U18 national teams as the starting Center from 2005-2009. Additionally, he represented Israel in the Paris Nike Camp as one of the top European players.
Since his retirement from professional basketball, Daniel has dedicated his time to developing young athletes around the globe through a religious perspective. He established HAPOEL USA, which combines basketball training, Torah "bites", and Hebrew language for Jewish youth in Los Angeles.
More recently, Daniel has worked at basketball summer sleep-away programs, established NCSY Jumpshot, one of the leading Torah and Basketball overnight programs in Israel, and currently works as the Director of Student Life at YULA High School: Boys Division.
Daniel’s extensive background in running summer camps and guiding young athletes and children to develop their skills, coupled with his dedication to promoting Jewish values, makes him an invaluable asset to our Moshava Alevy team.
